Font Mood Board

This is my font mood board which i will use to decide what font i am going to be using. The first font i like a lot but i don't think this would be appropriate for using for the whole feature page because of the long lettering. This would be maybe used for something like sub headings and qoutes in my magazine. The next one isn't something i would use because i think it's too common and a bit plain. The next two fonts, 3 and 4, aren't good font's to use in my magazine. I don't like either of them so i wouldn't be using them. Number four would only be okay to use if i used it for the title but i'm not because it's still too complicated. The 3rd one is too complicated and hard to read for anything also it's not one that fits into my target audience. The 5th one would be more suitable one to use for the feature page because it is quite simple and not over the top. I like this one a lot and i will be considering using this in my magazine most probably in the feature article page. Number 6 is far too busy to be used anywhere in my magazine i do not like it because i think it looks far too childish to use because the drawing texture it seems to have. Number 7 is very simular to the other one i was going to consider but slightly thicker. When doing my feature page i will have to test these two out to make a pick at what one i will be deffiantly using. Number 8 would be for the same use as the first one. I am also caught up on which ones to use for sub heading and etc. So when writing them i will test out which ones would be the best by seeing what looks better on my pages.
The next thing i done on my Font Mood Board was to test out font sizes. A few at the beggining are far to big for text on my feature or contents page. The largest one may not be big enough to be used as a size for the title so the first few will not be used. From about size 36 to 18 these ones are more relevant to my magazine. 36 or 30 could be used for qoutes and little headings and the 18 could be used for the actual feature page text because i think that will be a suitable size to fit all of the information and interview on. Anything below the size of 18 is far too small to be used on my magazine meaning readers will have a difficult time reading it. The sizes of 36 to 18 will be tested out when making my magazine.

This decides what colours i am going to use for my music magazine. I am going to use number two because it is in the middle of what i need. The colours are bright enough to stand out against the dark one. This will work well. The red, blue and yellow wouldn't be used all together on the same page because it would be too many colours. I will change between them on each page.
Number one isn't suitable because they don't really stand out as much as they are a bit boring. Also because i wanted to use red in my colour scheme.
Number 3 doesn't work at all, this is because that the browns clash together and the blue is quite random on it. The colours would just clash together and wouldn't look good at all on my music magazine. Also it doesn't meet my target audience because the music magazines that would be like mine use reds and blacks there isn't anything that is brown on it. Brown would be for a magazine about Gardening and i don't think this colour scheme would fit into any Music magazine.

Practice Contents Page

This is a practice contents page that i made on Photoshop. It has lots of bands i would feature in my own music magazine in the correct genre. I haven't written anything that would advertise about it yet because im focusing on the layout of the contents page and images and the colours. This contents page is close to the Rocksounds one which i wrote about. I think this contents page is a bit busy with too many pictures so for my final one i would turn it down a bit by not having as much photos, because i think this has made it busy.

Practice Front Cover
this is a practice for my front cover. It is a basic of what i want to do. I have used a picture of someone famous who produces music like i would advertise and the image has a dark background like what i want to do. I have used a bold and bright colour for the title which stands out against the black. The features are coloured white because these also stand out against the dark background. The barcode is at the side and isn't covering a part of the image at all so it isn't in the way.

Analyse of Existing College Magazine Cover
The colour of the magazine is bright with the text in really bold colours. The image gives the impression of a really happy student. She's holding books so it gives the 'good student' impressions. The font used on the magazine is simple to read which means you won't have any trouble reading it.
The banner at the bottom of the magazine cover advertises to join an SMS contest. This could be because the majority of college students are going to have a phone as teenagers are into the latest technologies.
At the side it advertises music and events. This would be to entice students by reading the cover and thinking there might be events they're interested in.
Having the bright shapes behind the writing 'FREE' draws you too this. Knowing the magazine is free entices you too it more and you're more likely to pick it up.
Evaluation of Questionnaire
I carried out a college magazine questionnaire and I discovered 95% don't read one. I then asked questions to find out why and what they would like. Most people asked would like to see music events and jobs and xbox to sports. The next question asked was to find out how much people would pay. Most people asked would be willing to pay under 50p. The encourage people to read the magazine the majority of people said if it was free and bright and colourful. 90% of people asked would like additional information about subjects in a college magazine. This gives people more of a reason to read it. The most people asked would like the magazine to be produced monthly.
Releasing the magazine for free the first issue would entice people to get it. This could be away to find out some feedback from students. Most people asked would like to see a 'what's on' guide in the college magazine. This would show gigs in the area and events outside college.
